Introduction
This is the copyright notice for StudyWithSTEM — studywithstem.github.io and everything sold through our Buy Me a Coffee shop. It sits alongside our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy, and it does two jobs: it tells you exactly what you may and may not do with our work, and it tells both audiences — people whose work we may have inadvertently used, and people whose use of ours crosses a line — how to raise it with us.
We've written it in plain English, but like the rest of our legal pages, it's binding.
Who owns what
Unless a different source is explicitly credited on the page or in the file itself, everything on StudyWithSTEM is the original work of StudyWithSTEM: the designs, illustrations, layouts, typography, written explanations, code, the PNG and PDF files in the shop, and the Site's structure and styling. © StudyWithSTEM. All rights reserved.
- Where we summarise or reference someone else's work, it's credited on the sheet or page — and their rights remain theirs.
- Typefaces are licensed from their foundries; we don't redistribute font files, and the foundries' licences govern them.
- The Site is hosted on GitHub Pages; their platform terms apply to the hosting, not to the content.
Facts vs expression
Science and mathematics belong to everyone. Nobody owns π, the speed of light, the periodic table, or the steps of the Krebs cycle — and neither do we.
What copyright protects is expression: the specific illustration, layout, wording, typography, and design that turn those facts into a StudyWithSTEM cheat sheet. Which means:
- Making your own poster about the same topic: completely fine — encouraged, even.
- Copying, tracing, or lightly recolouring ours and republishing it: infringement. Derivative works are still covered.
The line is originality of expression, not ownership of the subject.
The licence that comes with a purchase
Buying a cheat sheet — $8 for the PNG + PDF pair, within a bundle, or through lifetime membership — doesn't transfer ownership. It grants a licence. Specifically, a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence that lets you:
- Download, keep, and print copies for your own study and revision.
- Print and photocopy copies as handouts in your own classes, within your own school or tuition setting.
- Re-download the files from your Buy Me a Coffee account, on any device, for as long as the platform exists.
The licence is personal to you. It can't be sold, gifted, sub-licensed, or extended to an entire class group, Discord server, or department — one licence per purchase, one classroom per teacher.
What's not allowed
These are the uses we don't permit — the short version is "distribution":
- Reselling, sub-licensing, or bundling our files into your own product, paid or free.
- Rehosting or re-uploading the files anywhere: file-sharing sites, drives, Telegram or Discord groups, repositories, course portals, "free study resources" pages.
- Sharing the paid PNG/PDF itself with people who didn't buy it — including "to help people who can't afford it".
- Removing, cropping out, or obscuring watermarks, credits, or the StudyWithSTEM name.
- Tracing, recolouring, or lightly modifying our designs and republishing them as your own.
- Feeding our sheets into commercial AI or machine-learning training datasets without written permission.
- Presenting our work as your own in any academic, professional, or commercial context.
If the justification starts with "it's only a small shop" — that's exactly why the answer is no.
Bundles & lifetime membership
The bundle ($199) and lifetime membership ($66) don't change the licence — they change its scope:
- Bundle: every cheat sheet in the library at the time of purchase, each under the standard personal + classroom licence.
- Lifetime membership: every current and future product, under the same licence, for life.
- Neither includes commercial, institutional, or redistribution rights — those are a separate licence (see Section 08).
Corrections and updated versions of sheets you own appear in your account free — your licence covers the sheet, not one frozen file version.
Commercial & institutional licensing
Schools, bootcamps, publishers, course creators, and companies can license our sheets for wider use — multi-classroom, school-wide, department-wide, or embedded in a product. That's a paid licence, negotiated in writing.
Email studywithstem@gmail.com with: who you are, roughly how many people will use it, which sheets, and where. We're reasonable about education — but permission must exist in writing before the first use. Retroactive permission isn't a thing.
Trademarks: name & logo
The StudyWithSTEM name and logo identify us. They may not be used in a way that implies endorsement, partnership, or affiliation without written permission — no putting our logo on your course, no "official StudyWithSTEM partner" claims, no lookalike branding.
Using the word StudyWithSTEM to honestly describe or link to us (the nominative kind of use) is fine, and always welcome.
Reporting piracy of our work
If you spot our paid files being shared, rehosted, or resold anywhere — thank you for noticing. Send the link to studywithstem@gmail.com, along with where you found it, if you can.
We'll take it from there: DMCA notices to the host, platform, or marketplace as appropriate. You don't have to argue with anyone or play internet detective — just tell us. We're a one-person shop, and every report genuinely matters.
Filing a copyright complaint (takedown)
Our entire product is original design, so we're careful never to infringe — but if you believe something on this Site or in the shop infringes your copyright, we want to hear it and fix it fast. Send a notice to studywithstem@gmail.com including:
- Identification of the original work — its title, and a URL or registration number if you have one.
- The exact URL(s) on our Site or shop of the allegedly infringing material.
- Your name, address, email, and a phone number we can reach you on.
- A statement of your good-faith belief that the use isn't authorised by you, your agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and — under penalty of perjury, where that applies — that you're the owner or authorised to act for the owner.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
We'll review valid notices promptly, remove or disable access to challenged material, and notify the contributor where one exists. Where the law requires it, we'll also honour counter-notices. Your notice and its details are handled per our Privacy Policy.
Repeat infringers
We keep records of notices sent and received. Where our shop or its platforms give us the ability, accounts tied to repeated infringement — of our work, or by contributors of material to ours — are terminated, and future access blocked.
On our side of the fence, we don't aim takedowns at good-faith uses — reviews, classroom discussion, honest criticism — only at unauthorised distribution.
Third-party & open-source components
- Any open-source components used by our tools remain governed by their upstream licences, which take precedence for that code; we comply with their attribution requirements wherever they apply.
- Credited external sources keep their own rights — our use of them is quotation and summary with attribution.
- Licensed typefaces stay licensed; we don't ship font files with our products.
Enforcement
We prefer a friendly email to a lawsuit. First contact is always: take it down, license it, or credit it properly — most cases end there.
If that fails, we escalate: DMCA takedowns to hosts and platforms, and legal action where the scale justifies it. The heavier machinery — indemnification, liability limits — is described in the Terms and Conditions.
We enforce because the files are the entire business of a one-person project — not because we enjoy being heavy about a poster.
Changes to this notice
We may update this notice as the shop and its products change. The "Last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version, and material changes will be flagged on the Site.
This notice forms part of our legal documentation together with the Terms and Privacy Policy; if anything here conflicts with them, the more specific page wins.
Contact
Licensing requests, piracy reports, and takedown notices all go to the same inbox: studywithstem@gmail.com, or our Contact page. We read everything, and licensing conversations usually start the same day.
