02 · HOW TO USE

Three fields, one result.

No manual required — here's the entire flow.

STEP 01

Enter your value

Type the data size you want to convert into the value field. The tool starts you off with a value of 1.

STEP 02

Pick your units

Choose the unit you're converting from and the unit you want, or tap ⇅ to instantly swap the two.

STEP 03

Hit convert

Tap Convert and the exact result appears immediately in the results panel, right beside the tool.

STEP 04

Go further

Open Advanced options to adjust decimal precision, switch between binary and decimal units, or view your value converted into every supported unit at once.

03 · WHAT YOU GET

Eight units, exact factors, full control.

Every conversion uses fixed, standard-defined factors — never rough estimates.

Binary units (1024)

Bit · Byte · KB · MB · GB · TB · PB

The standard used by most operating systems. 1 KB = 1024 bytes, 1 MB = 1024 KB, and so on.

Decimal units (1000)

kB · MB · GB · TB · PB

The standard used by storage manufacturers. 1 kB = 1000 bytes, 1 MB = 1000 kB, and so on.

Advanced controls

Precision · Swap · Full unit table

Adjust decimal precision from 0–8 places, swap units in one tap, or view every conversion side by side.

04 · FAQ

Questions people actually ask.

The short answers — with the long ones one tap away.

How do I convert kilobytes to megabytes?+

In binary mode (1024), divide the number of kilobytes by 1024 to get megabytes. In decimal mode (1000), divide by 1000. In this tool, set Convert from to Kilobyte and Convert to to Megabyte, or tap the 1 KB → MB quick-conversion chip.

What is the difference between binary and decimal data units?+

Binary units use powers of 1024 (1 KB = 1024 bytes), while decimal units use powers of 1000 (1 kB = 1000 bytes). Storage manufacturers typically use decimal, while operating systems often use binary. This tool lets you switch between both modes with a single dropdown.

How many bytes are in a kilobyte?+

In binary mode, 1 kilobyte (KB) equals 1,024 bytes. In decimal mode, 1 kilobyte (kB) equals 1,000 bytes. This tool supports both standards and clearly shows which one you're using.

Can I see a value converted into every unit at once?+

Yes. Tap Show advanced under Advanced options and the results panel will display a full table converting your entered value into every supported unit at the same time.

Can I change how many decimal places are shown?+

Yes. Open Advanced options and choose a decimal precision from 0 to 8 places. It applies to both the main result and the full conversion table.

Is this data converter free, and does it work offline once loaded?+

It's completely free with no account or sign-up. All the math runs directly in your browser using fixed conversion factors — no data is sent anywhere, and no external service is called to perform a conversion.
