JSON Formatter

Format, validate and minify JSON, right in your browser.

FREE · PRIVATE · NO UPLOAD
01 · THE FORMATTER

Paste your JSON, pick your options, go.

Drop in a .json file or paste raw JSON, choose your indentation and sorting, then format, minify, or just validate. Everything runs on your device — nothing is uploaded.

Drop a .json file here or tap to browse

Or paste your JSON directly below

CSV needs a flat array of objects at the top level; TypeScript and JS object work on any valid JSON.

Auto-fix strips comments and trailing commas and quotes bare keys. Unescape unwraps JSON that's been copied as an escaped string, e.g. "{\"a\":1}".

04 · FAQ

Questions people actually ask.

The short answers — with the long ones one tap away.

How do I format JSON with this tool?+

Paste your JSON into the box, or drop in a .json file. Pick your indent size and any options, then tap Format JSON. The pretty-printed, color-coded result appears on the right, ready to copy or download.

Is my JSON uploaded to a server?+

No. Formatting, validating and minifying all happen locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your data never leaves your device, so it's safe to use with private or sensitive JSON.

Can this tool find errors in invalid JSON?+

Yes. If your JSON can't be parsed, the tool reports what went wrong along with the exact line and column where the problem starts, so you can jump straight to the fix.

Can I minify JSON instead of formatting it?+

Yes. Tap Minify to collapse your JSON into a single compact line with no extra whitespace — useful for shrinking payloads before sending them over the network.

Can I sort the keys in my JSON object?+

Yes. Turn on Sort keys A→Z before formatting, and every object's keys are reordered alphabetically at every level — which makes diffing two JSON files much easier.

What indentation options are available?+

You can choose 2 spaces, 4 spaces, or a tab character for indentation. Minified output ignores this setting since it removes all whitespace.

Can this tool fix broken JSON automatically?+

Yes. Turning on Auto-fix common errors strips // and /* */ comments, removes trailing commas, quotes bare object keys, and converts single-quoted strings to double-quoted ones before validating — which resolves many of the small mistakes that break strict JSON.

Can I convert JSON to CSV, TypeScript, or a JS object?+

Yes. Pick CSV, TypeScript interface, or JS object under Output format before converting. CSV needs a flat array of objects at the top level; TypeScript and JS object work with any valid JSON structure.

Is this JSON formatter free to use?+

Yes, it's completely free with no account, no sign-up, and no limit on how many times you use it.
