Common questions.
Short answers to the things people ask most.
What is an HTTP status code?+
An HTTP status code is a three-digit number a web server returns to tell the browser (or client) what happened with the request. Codes are grouped into five classes: 1xx (informational), 2xx (success), 3xx (redirects), 4xx (client errors), and 5xx (server errors).
How does this HTTP status checker work?+
The tool sends a request to a public CORS-friendly API that fetches the URL you enter and returns its HTTP status code, reason phrase, and headers. Nothing is logged or stored by StudyWithSTEM.
Does it check redirects?+
Yes. The tool reports 3xx redirect codes and shows the Location header when available, so you can see where a URL redirects to.
Can I check both HTTP and HTTPS URLs?+
Yes, both http:// and https:// URLs are supported. If you omit the protocol, the tool will attempt to fetch the URL as entered.
Is this tool free?+
Yes, it's completely free with no account or sign-up required.
