Questions people actually ask.
The short answers — with the long ones one tap away.
What is an IP address lookup?+
An IP address lookup takes an IPv4 or IPv6 address and returns information tied to it, such as its approximate location, the internet service provider or organization it belongs to, and its network (ASN) details. It doesn't reveal the exact street address of a device — only the network's registered location.
How accurate is IP-based location data?+
IP geolocation is usually accurate down to the city or region level, since it's based on where an internet provider has registered its network ranges. It is not GPS-accurate and can be off by many miles, especially for mobile networks, VPNs, or corporate connections.
Can I look up my own IP address with this tool?+
Yes. Leave the input empty or tap Use my IP and the tool detects and looks up your current public IP address automatically.
Does this tool work with domain names as well as IP addresses?+
Yes. Enter a domain such as example.com and the tool resolves it to an IP address and shows the same location and network details.
Does it support both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses?+
Yes, both address types are supported, and the results panel shows which type was detected.
Is this tool free, and is my search stored anywhere?+
It's completely free with no account or sign-up. The address or domain you enter is sent only to the lookup service to fetch its details — nothing is logged or stored by StudyWithSTEM.
