Hash Generator

Compute MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-512 and more — instantly, in your browser.

FREE · PRIVATE · NO UPLOAD
01 · THE GENERATOR

Hash text or a file — all locally.

Choose an algorithm, paste your text or drop a file, and get the digest instantly. Everything runs on your device with the Web Crypto API — nothing is ever sent anywhere.

Hashing runs live as you type. Nothing is uploaded.

RESULT
ENTER TEXT OR CHOOSE A FILE TO HASH
02 · HOW TO USE

Four steps to a clean hash.

No manual needed — here's the entire flow.

STEP 01

Choose text or file

Paste text directly or drop in a file. Everything stays on your device — nothing is uploaded.

STEP 02

Pick an algorithm

Select MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, SHA-3 or RIPEMD-160. SHA-256 is a solid default for most uses.

STEP 03

Set encoding & options

Choose hex, base64 or base64url output. Toggle uppercase for hex, or enable HMAC and enter a secret key.

STEP 04

Copy or compare

Copy the digest, download it as a text file, or paste an expected hash to check for a match.

03 · WHAT YOU GET

Built for verification, not just hashing.

The details that make a hash generator useful in real work — all without leaving your browser.

Runs on your device

No upload · No account · No storage

Every hash is computed locally using the Web Crypto API. Your text and files never leave your device.

Multiple algorithms

MD5 · SHA-1 · SHA-256 · SHA-512 · SHA-3 · RIPEMD-160

Switch algorithms with one tap — useful for checksums, signatures, password storage and API work.

HMAC & comparison

Secret key · Expected-hash check

Add a secret key for HMAC, or paste an expected hash to instantly see if it matches.

04 · FAQ

Questions people actually ask.

The short answers — with the long ones one tap away.

What is a hash generator used for?+

A hash generator turns any input — text or a file — into a fixed-length string called a digest. It's used to verify file integrity, store passwords safely, create digital signatures, and check that data hasn't been altered.

Which hash algorithm should I choose?+

For modern security, use SHA-256 or SHA-512. MD5 and SHA-1 are still useful for checksums and non-security purposes, but they are considered broken for cryptographic security. Use SHA-3 if you need the latest standard.

Is my data sent to a server?+

No. Every hash is computed locally in your browser using the Web Crypto API. Nothing is uploaded, logged or stored. Your text and files never leave your device.

What is HMAC and when should I use it?+

HMAC (Hash-based Message Authentication Code) combines a hash function with a secret key. It proves both the integrity and authenticity of a message — use it when you need to verify that data came from someone who knows the key.

Can I hash a file with this tool?+

Yes. Switch to File mode, drop or select a file, and the hash is computed locally without uploading anything. This is useful for verifying downloads or checking file integrity.

What do hex and base64 output mean?+

They are two ways to represent the same hash bytes. Hex uses 0-9 and a-f, base64 uses a denser alphabet. Hex is more common for checksums; base64 is often used in URLs and APIs.

Can I compare a hash I already have?+

Yes. Paste the expected hash into the comparison field and the tool will tell you if it matches the computed digest — useful for verifying downloads or API responses.

Does this hash generator store anything I enter?+

No. Nothing is saved, logged or synced. When you close or refresh the page, all input and results are gone.

Is this hash generator free?+

Yes, it's completely free with no account, no sign-up, and no limit on how many hashes you compute.
