Questions people actually ask.

The short answers — with the long ones one tap away.

What does the paragraph counter measure?+

It counts paragraphs, words, characters (with and without spaces), sentences, and lines in the text you paste or type, then estimates reading and speaking time from the word count.

How are paragraphs counted?+

Paragraphs are counted by splitting the text on blank lines (two or more line breaks). A block of text separated by an empty line is treated as one paragraph. Single line breaks within a block do not create a new paragraph.

How is reading time calculated?+

Reading time is estimated using an average adult reading speed of about 200 words per minute. It's a helpful estimate, not an exact figure, since actual reading speed varies by person and text.

How is speaking time calculated?+

Speaking time is estimated using an average speaking pace of about 130 words per minute, which is useful for timing speeches, presentations, or scripts.

Does it count paragraphs in languages other than English?+

Yes. Paragraph, word and character counts work for any language, though sentence detection relies on standard punctuation marks like periods, question marks, and exclamation points.

Is my text stored or sent anywhere?+

No. Everything is calculated locally in your browser. Your text is never uploaded, logged, or stored by StudyWithSTEM.
