Questions people actually ask.

The short answers — with the long ones one tap away.

What does the reading time calculator measure?+

It estimates how long it takes to read or speak a piece of text. It uses your chosen reading speed (in words per minute) and speaking pace to calculate reading time and speaking time, alongside word count and other text stats.

What reading speed should I use?+

The default of 200 words per minute is a good average for adults reading silently. You can lower it for dense technical content or raise it for light reading. The tool lets you adjust it to match your own pace.

How is speaking time calculated?+

Speaking time uses an adjustable words-per-minute pace, defaulting to 130 words per minute — a comfortable presentation speed. You can change it to match a slower or faster delivery.

Can I use it for speeches and presentations?+

Yes. The speaking time estimate is designed for exactly that. Paste your script and adjust the pace to see how long your delivery will take, which helps you stay within time limits.

Does it work for languages other than English?+

Yes. Word and character counts work for any language. Reading and speaking time estimates are based on words per minute, which still applies across languages, though the average pace may differ.

Is my text stored or sent anywhere?+

No. Everything is calculated locally in your browser. Your text is never uploaded, logged, or stored by StudyWithSTEM.
